AFH : DFW | June Update

Update posted by Ryan Behring on June 7, 2010

AFH : DFW | June Update

Thanks to all who came out for our May meeting at Trinity Hall. The following is a rundown of what we covered and what's coming up:

1. We are currently finishing a schematic design proposal for a campus prototype in Haiti (think orphange, but for anyone; dorm rooms, medical care, classrooms, recreation spaces). This is a project that we started back in February, which we will be posting to the Open Architecture Network, making it available for anyone to use (www.openarchitecturenetwork.org). If you have any questions about this project, please contact Jeremy, our West Texas representative, at jeremy.hahn@gmail.com

2. Amid brainstorming for an upcoming chapter fundraiser, the idea of a pub crawl/historic Dallas/architecture-themed drink/scavenger hunt (all via public transit) event was proposed. We see this as being a great opportunity to support the chapter, learn about historic places in Dallas, and meet some new friends. Entry fee will be $15-20, with the vast majority of that going toward your local AFH chapter. This event is scheduled for the end of August. Interested? Please contact Ginny at gking@pdmsdesign.com

3. Finally, we will be participating in 2 community events this fall:

Hearts and Hammers (Sept. 11/18th):
http://www.heartsandhammers-dallas.org/

Canstruction (October 9th) http://www.canstruction.org/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&task=userPr...

We participated in Canstruction last year (photos on group page) and this is our first for H&H. Each event involves independent fundraising, planning and design work so if you would like to get involved, we ask that you please choose one event. We want to make each event a successful service to the community and we need your commitment!

Jared (jared_w@att.net) and Alexis (abflores@gmail.com)are heading up H&H and Canstruction leaders are to be determined - we need you! :). Please contact Stephen - stephen@afhdfw.org or Ryan - ryan_b@afhdfw.org to get involved.

Cheers,

Ryan & Stephen
