Hey all,
Thanks to everyone for making it out last week! Here is what we came away with:
1. We have coordinators! Well, mostly. We came away from the meeting with a committed core group, with interim leaders Marcy & Ryan. Be on the look out - they want you! Interested? contact Marcy at marhoads@abadiaccess.com
2. Tornado response action plan:
- Marcela is coordinating with AIA Dallas (i.e. RUDAT or Communities by Design) to begin formulating a plan for local disaster design response.
Friends and AFHer's,
As you undoubtedly have seen, many school and homes were affected by last weeks' tornados. Stephen and I are currently working with AFH HQ to formulate a plan for long-term recovery partnership. As some of you may know, AFH & AIA formed a partnership back in February to address an architectural response to natural disaster. Please take a moment to check it out and consider how you may be able to get involved:

Hey everyone!
We are planning a meeting for Aptil 18th, so be on the look out for an invite this week!
As some of you know we are going through a transition period and looking for new leadership. (interested, shoot me an e-mail at ryan_b@afhdfw.org!)
As a brief overview, our chapter started in June 2009 out of the grassroots movement of public-interest designers desiring to serve the poor and underserved in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Stephen and Ryan started the chapter, organizing projects and meetings for 18 months.
Greetings all!
Please don't forget that the Solukhumbu Development Project Fundraiser is this Saturday, September 10th at the Indreni Nepali Cultural Center in Irving.
There will be Nepali snacks, music, dance performances, a Silent Auction, and the debut of the short documentary "The Mountain Between Us" about two young girls living in Nepal.
It would be so great if you could come out and support the event! And if not, maybe peruse the Silent Auction items on our event website and see if any might peak your interest!?

Greetings all!
Thanks to all that were able to make it out. Just a quick recap for those who could not:
1) Edge of Seven : Solukhumbu Development Project
AFH:DFW is collaborating on a fundraising effort in September to support several projects in Nepal, including several water and sanitation upgrades, as well as the addition and new construction of several schools. What we need from our members:
- Suggestions where to host the event? (Preferably in Irving where a large Nepal community resides)
- Possible donation sources (drinks, food, art, music during the event)
Dedicated AFHer's, friends and friends we have yet to meet,
Thanks to all leadership for coming out last Monday! We can all be excited for our chapter as we've got some great opportunities to make a difference in our community for 2011.
We are currently collecting feedback on intiatives and organizational leadership for 2011. As we have your feedback we will begin to move on projects. Between the homeless initiative and the DISD project we've got some good relationships to build on for the Spring.
Friends, friends we haven't met yet and dedicated AFHers,
Happy 2011! I hope you each had an enjoyable (and restful) Christmas and New Year.
2010 was a big year for our little infant chapter (now 18 months young):
> Through engaging community design workshops, produced a conceptual design for a dorm-style campus in Haiti
> Hosted our 1st annual Dallas Architecture Tour and Pub Crawl with 45 friends (photos on FB group page)
