Formed in 1986, Hearts and Hammers is a non-profit organization with a yearly mission to refurbish qualified homes owned by low income citizens within the Dallas Metroplex. www.heartsandhammers-dallas.org/
Architecture for Humanity will be volunteering our time to improve the home of a wonderful West Dallas (Close to Loop 12 and Keeneland Pkwy 75211) citizen through the Hearts and Hammers organization. This will be the second year the AFH-Dallas Chapter participates. Help us make this year as successful as the last! And for those that participated last year, we made sure to make this year way easier!
WE NEED VOLUNTEERS AND SUPPORT!
Volunteer scope of work:
Saturday, September 17 (basic prep work) 8-5pm
House Wash (hose down house for easy paint scraping)
Start Paint Scraping (soffit, decorative trim, etc)
Start Soffit Replacement and/or Refurbishing (replace rotted soffit wood)
Caulking (windows, doors, other openings as needed)
Landscape (removal of weeds and other invasive plants)
Saturday, September 24 (final project day) 8-5 pm
Finish Paint Scraping (decorative trim, siding, etc)
Finish Soffit Replacement and/or Refurbishing
Painting (decorative trim, soffit
Landscape (trim, cut, etc.)
If you can volunteer for one or more of these dates, great! You do not have to stay the whole day, and we do not anticipate we will be there from 8-5pm. We hope to provide lunch, drinks, and snacks for everyone again this year. If you know someone who might be able to provide lunch, please let us know.
If you are interested (and we need serious interest please!!!) please provide your contact info as well as the date and times you will be available (Sept. 17 and/or Sept. 24) to either Alexis Flores at alexis_f@afhdfw.org or Jared White at jared_w@afhdfw.org
We will get/give more details once we hear from you. We will also be discussing this event in great depth at the next AFH meeting, Wednesday August 31st (7 pm at Lee Harvey’s in Dallas).
Thanks in advance for you help,
Alexis, Jared, and Architecture for Humanity-DFW Chapter
